EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique is a tool that uses tapping on specific acupressure points to produce healing. Did you know there are over 400 acupuncture points throughout the body?
When we experience a physical or emotional trauma, we store it in our body. Even though we heal from the incident, it can leave a ‘memory’ or ‘charge’ in our body.
This charge causes a disruption in the body’s energy system, which creates a negative response throughout the mind and body.
Tapping reduces the charge so that when you have the memory again, there is no effect on your nervous system or thoughts.
EFT works on the meridians in your body. Think of meridians as conduits for your body’s energy. There are12 major meridians and many minor ones. Meridians flow around the body.
A negative emotional response happens when a point in the system is disrupted. The disruption occurs when there is physical or emotional trauma.
1. Using the Subjective Units of Disorder Scale (SUDS), rate your pain from 0 to 10.
2. Create the Set Up phrase:
a. Even though I have this (pain), I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
3. Perform and repeat the round.
The initial or base issue is called the core issue. There may be multiple issues (or aspects) surrounding a pain or trauma and tapping on more than one phrase may be required. If the issue contains multiple or complex traumas, use the tap map I provide to break down the issue into multiple tappable issues.
Rate your current level of distress using the SUDS.
If the distress still exists, repeat the entire EFT cycle again.
Additional phrasing or a slightly different set up phrase can be helpful.
Allow your intuition to assist you when you are tapping points—if other words or phrases come to mind, use them during the tapping exercise.
